NORFOLK, Va. (April 19, 2023) – The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) revealed its men's and women's track & field weekly award where Howard University saw a pair of Bison acknowledged for their efforts in the Sunshine State. The announcement came Wednesday.
Graduate
Dylan Beard (Baltimore) and senior
Jessica Wright (Durham, N.C.) won Track Athletes of the Week for the performances at the Tom Jones Memorial (April 14-15), hosted by the University of Florida.
Beard broke two program records, including a MEAC-best 13.29 in the 110-meter hurdles prelims, which is second in the country. Overall, the Baltimore native placed runner-up with a 13.31 time. He also was on the 4x100 relay team that set a new school mark (40.04).
For Wright, she set a MEAC-best in the women's 400-meter hurdles (55.81), which placed fourth overall in the race and fourth in the nation. Wright also ran a MEAC-best 52.34 in the women's 400 meters, ranking 29
th nationally.
Graduate
Mikyla Rodgers (South Huntington, N.Y.) earned honorable mention after throwing a conference-best 56.96 meters in the hammer.
Beard shared MEAC Men's Track Athlete of the Week with Norfolk State senior Kai Cole. Coppin State junior James Bell was named Men's Field Athlete of the Week while Morgan State junior Tia Jackson earned Women's Field Athlete of the Week honors.
On April 22, HU heads to Baltimore for a pair meets: Hopkins-Loyola Invitational and Morgan Legacy.
