CLEMSON, S.C. & STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (December 8, 2023) – Howard University men's track & field team wrapped up the 2023 calendar year with a pair of meets: Clemson Opener (Clemson, S.C.) and Seahawk Shootout (Staten Island, N.Y.).
CLEMSON OPENER
In South Carolina, rookie
Jordan Good (Greensboro, N.C.) grabbed a victory in the 800-meter run, clocking in at 1:55.49.
Graduate
Samuel Bennett (Langdon Hills, United Kingdom) and seniors
Darian Clyburn (Louisville, Ky.) and
Zachary Hawkins (Lithonia, Ga.) took part in the 60-meter hurdles where they placed fifth, seventh and eighth, respectively.
Senior
Ja'Leak Perry (Atlanta), graduate
Goba Dan-Princewill (Houston) and newcomer
Caleb Watlington (Greensboro, N.C.) competed in the 60-meter dash, earning fifth (6.83), sixth (6.86) and seventh (6.95), respectively.
Perry also finished third overall in the 200-meter dash, producing a new personal best (21.56).
SEAHAWK SHOOTOUT
In New York, juniors
Kyle Fisher (Duluth, Ga.) and
Sean Wray (Stafford, Va.) placed first (7.23 meters) and second (7.16 meters), respectively, in the long jump.
Fellow classmate
Chase Drewery (Waldorf, Md.) took part in the triple jump, earning bronze after leaping over 49 feet (14.97 meters).
On the track, graduate
Wendesen King (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) finished runner-up in the 3000-meter run (8:40.69) and third overall in the 1-mile run (4:19.98).
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
On Jan. 12-13, HU returns after the New Year in Louisville, Ky., for the Rod McCravy Invitational, hosted by the University of Kentucky.
