CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (December 2, 2023) – Howard University men's track & field team opened the indoor season with a victory at the annual HBCU & Ivy Challenge, hosted by Harvard in Cambridge, Mass.
HU tallied 108 points, edging out conference rival Delaware State by five points (103).
Junior
Kyle Fisher (Duluth, Ga.) led the way in the field events, winning the long jump (7.15 meters) and triple jump (15.02 meters) while accumulating 18 points for HU.
Fellow classmates
Sean Wray (Stafford, Va.) and
Chase Drewery (Waldorf, Md.) also competed. Wray placed second in the long jump (7.07 meters) while the DMV native finished runner-up in the triple jump (14.81 meters). Both Bison combined for 14 points.
Other notable performance in the field events included second-year Bison
Andre Prince (Windsor, Conn.) taking third place in the weight throw, tossing nearly 52 feet (15.71 meters).
On the track, senior
Zachary Hawkins (Lithonia, Ga.) and rookie
Caleb Watlington (Greensboro, N.C.) picked up wins in the 60-meter hurdle and 300-meter dash. Hawkins won the short hurdles with a 7.99 mark while the Tar Heel product claimed gold with a 34.98 time.
Sophomore
Adam Musgrove (Nassau, Bahamas) also competed in the 300-meter run, earning third place with a 35.21 mark while tallying six points.
Graduates
Goba Dan-Princewill (Houston) and
Samuel Bennett (Langdon Hills, United Kingdom) took part in the 60-meter dash, placing second (6.90) and third (6.94), respectively.
Other noteworthy effort on the track included newcomer
Jordan Good (Greensboro, N.C.) finishing third overall in the 600-meter run, clocking in at 1:19.55.
On Dec. 8, HU splits up for a pair of meets: Clemson Opener (Clemson, S.C.) & Seahawk Shootout (Staten Island, N.Y.).
