DC Native stays home, Signs to Play at Howard

WASHINGTON - Howard University women's basketball head coach Ty Grace signed local guard Saniyah King during Wednesday's National Signing Day.

The decorated DC native is a standout player at private Catholic preparatory school Bishop Ireton as well as a key component on her AAU team Team Durant EYBL.

The 2023 Defensive Player of the Year served as a 3X team captain at Bishop Ireton while earning the most recent Coaches Award for the Lady Cardinals.

"I am very excited about the addition of Saniyah King. She is a homegrown kid and I'm glad we get to keep her in the District! She has played competitively both on the High School level and AAU circuit, with top local programs, Bishop Ireton, and EYBL organization Team Durant. She has some ties to Howard, with her mom Stacey being a proud alum and one of her biggest supporters," shared Howard head women's basketball Coach Ty Grace.

During the 22-23 season, the 5'7" point guard ranked among the top 15 in the state of Virginia in assists per game. Other recent accolades for the honor roll student include achieving the 2023 Student Athletic Excellence Award as well as being recognized as a 2023 WCAC Honorable Mention recipient.
Coach Grace added, "Saniyah brings skill, court savvy, and a scorer's mentality to the point guard position. She has good court vision and likes to distribute the ball. Her leadership and character will be great assets to the program. I'm looking forward to coaching her and seeing her thrive, not only athletically, but academically as well. I'm thrilled to welcome Saniyah and her family to the Mecca!"

Striving for greatness on and off the court, the AP scholar is also a member of the National Honor Society maintaining a 3.0 or better.
