BETHLEHEM, Pa. (October 24, 2023) – Howard University women's golf team placed third at the Lehigh Invitational, hosted by the Mountain Hawks. The two-day event took place at the Saucon Valley Country Club in Bethlehem, Pa.
After taking the early tourney lead in round one, HU shot 27-over par (315) without the services of second-year Bison
Morgan Horrell (Dallas), who withdrew from the event after a top five performance on day one.
Reigning Northeast Conference (NEC) Rookie of the Year
Marley Franklin (Los Angeles) paced the squad, shooting 3-over par (75) in round two with an eagle on hole five. Overall, the Los Angeles native produced a 149 (+5) and tied for second place.
All-NEC selection junior
Kendall Jackson (Pearland, Texas) and newcomer
Emily Mayne (Kingston, Jamaica) tied for 22
nd overall, registering 159 (+15) in two rounds.
Junior
Jada Richardson (Suwanee, Ga.) rounded out the Bison, recording a 164 (+20) and tying for 43
rd in the individual standings.
FDU won the 2023 Lehigh Invite, shooting 34-over par (610) in two days, including a tournament-low 299 (+11) on the final day. Albany finished second, six strokes behind the Knights (617, +41).
Individually, Albany's Mariel Tee took home the medal after producing a 147 (+3). Franklin, along with FDU's Apichaya Chirakurakorn and Victoria Schroedl and Lehigh's Yuki Zhu came in second.
HU will regroup for the remaining fall season and prepare for the upcoming 2024 spring campaign.
