CARY, N.C. (October 15, 2023) – Howard University women's golf team rallied in the final round of the SAS Championship, earning its second straight title with a record-setting performance of 2-under par (278). The two-day, 36-hole event took place at the Prestonwood Country Club (par-70, 5,803 yards) in Cary, N.C.
Trailing only eight strokes after Day One (296, +16), Howard put on an incredible effort to run away with crown.
All-NEC selection junior
Kendall Jackson (Pearland, Texas) led the way, winning her second consecutive SAS individual title with a 1-under par (139) performance during the two rounds. After shooting even par (70) in round one, the Texas native followed up with a 69 (-1), including five birdies.
Rookie
Emily Mayne (Kingston, Jamaica) returned to the green after missing the last outing due to injury. The Jamaica product finished runner-up behind Jackson (142, +2), accumulating seven birdies in 36 holes of action.
Second-year Bison
Morgan Horrell (Dallas) rounded out the top five, finishing 5-over par (145) with three birdies, including two on the final day.
Junior
Jada Richardson (Suwanee, Ga.) and sophomore
Marley Franklin (Los Angeles) placed in the top 20, ending the weekend 16
th (150, +10) and 17
th (152, +12), respectively.
Overall, HU shot 14-over par (574) during the tourney. Delaware State finished runner-up (584, +24), followed by North Carolina A&T State (599, +39).
On Oct. 22-24, Howard wraps up its fall slate in Bethlehem, Pa., for the Lehigh Invitational.
