BRIDGEWATER, N.J. (October 11, 2023) – The Northeast Conference (NEC) uncovered its swimming & diving weekly honors where Howard University saw four Bison earn recognition for their outstanding performances at the Battle at the Burr II (BATB). The announcement came Wednesday afternoon.
Sophomore
Zuilda Nwaeze (Columbia, Md.) and graduate
Luke-Kennedy Thompson (Nassau, Bahamas) won NEC Swimmers of the Week while junior
Jordan Walker (San Antonio) and newcomer
Mason Green (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) claimed Men's Diver of the Week and Men's Rookie of the Week, respectively.
In the BATB against Georgetown (Oct. 7), Nwaeze won the 200 Free with a league-best time of 1:53.51. She also took home bronze in the 100 Fly, registering a NEC-leading 56.71 time. In the 200 Medley Relay, she guided the team to victory with a 1:43.69 mark.
Thompson earned silver in the 500 Free versus Georgetown, clocking in at a conference-best 4:49.33. Later on, the Bahamas native claimed third place in the 1000 Free, posting a NEC-best 10:17.58 mark.
Walker placed fifth overall in the 1-meter dive against Georgetown, scoring 258.85 points (NEC-best).
Green posted an outstanding NEC league-leading time against Georgetown, taking gold in the 200 Free with a 1:42.44 mark.
Sacred Heart's Sophia Velleco and Olivia McNicholas won NEC Women's Rookie of the Week and Women's Diver of the Week, respectively.
Green, Nwaeze, Thompson and Walker joined senior
Tristan Stevens (Chicago), junior
Zaylie-Elizabeth Thompson (Nassau, Bahamas) and freshman
Jasmine Morgan (Chicago) on the NEC Prime Performer list.
Howard is back in action Saturday, October 14, at 1 p.m., when they take on Mount St. Mary's in Emmitsburg, Maryland.
