Women’s Basketball Cruises Past Lady Bulldogs

Bison close out home stand with victory over South Carolina State

WASHINGTON (January 30, 2023) – The Howard University women's basketball team closed out its four-game home stand with a 67-35 victory over South Carolina State University (SCSU) in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) matchup at Burr Gymnasium.

With the win, Howard improved to 9-11 (5-2 MEAC) while extending their win streak to three.

Several Bison contributed to today's win, led by junior guard Destiny Howell (Queens, N.Y.) led with a game-high 20 points on 8-of-15 shooting, including 4-of-9 from long range. During the streak, she has scored 20 points in all three contests.

Both squads started slow until Howard managed to gain control of the opening quarter and took a 19-10 advantage after one.

In the second quarter, HU held the Lady Bulldogs to under 12-percent (2-of-17) and took a commanding 15-point lead into the break, 33-18.

The third quarter is where the Bison really stretched their lead, holding a 30-point advantage after three, 50-20, thanks to a pair of free throws from graduate Aziah Hudson (Massapequa, N.Y.). HU outscored South Carolina State in the period, 17-2, including a 15-0 run.

Hudson and graduate forward Krislyn Marsh (Houston) both finished with nine points and sophomore guard Nyla Cooper (Fayetteville, N.C.) closely followed with eight points.

HU won the rebounding battle, 47-37, led by Marsh and Brooklynn Fort-Davis (Chicago) with seven boards apiece.

The Lady Bison will enjoy a break before they hit the road in two weeks to take on Delaware State (Feb. 11), at 2 p.m. in Dover, Delaware.
