MATCHUP PREVIEW
On March 18-19, NSU won the season series against Howard, 2-1.
HU grabbed the opener with a 9-1 victory, highlighted by a no-hitter from All-MEAC selection graduate
Analise De La Roca (San Pedro, Calif.), but Norfolk State took the final two contests.
HOWARD
Howard (27-21, 17-4 MEAC) enters the tournament as the No. 2 seed with this season's MEAC record being the best finish since winning back-to-back MEAC Northern Division titles (2009 & 2010). HU is seeking its second MEAC title in program history, first since 2007.
Recently, eight Bison earned MEAC postseason honors, led by senior
Kalita Dennis (Elk Grove, Calif.) and freshman
Lealani Ricks (Madera, Calif.) receiving All-MEAC First Team honors.
NORFOLK STATE
Entering the tournament, Norfolk State (31-21, 16-5 MEAC) tied the program record for wins in a season during the Div. I era (31). For most of the season, the Spartans were tied in the league standings with Morgan State, just as the preseason conference voting predicted.
Tuli Iosefa, MEAC Player of the Year, and Kenna Higa, MEAC Co-Rookie of the Year, lead the way for NSU.
LAST TIMEOUT
On May 3, HU closed out the regular season with a split at Saint Peter's. HU dropped game one, 5-0, but rallied to win the nightcap, 5-1.
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
With a win, HU plays Thursday (March 12) and awaits the winner between No. 1 Morgan State and No. 5 North Carolina Central. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
With a setback, Howard plays Thursday against No. 4 Maryland Eastern Shore in an elimination game. The action starts 3 p.m.
