WASHINGTON (April 1, 2022) – Howard University softball team travels to Baltimore to face rival Morgan State (MSU) in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) three-game series. Saturday's (April 2) doubleheader begins at 1 p.m. and Sunday (April 3) single, seven-inning game starts at noon.
MATCHUP PREVIEW
HOWARD
HU (12-18, 3-2 MEAC) enters the weekend after sweeping Coppin State Saturday (March 26).
Currently, Howard leads the league in batting average (.292). The trio of senior
Camille Navarro (Los Angeles) and freshmen
Victoria Brown (Carson, Calif.) and
Alyssa Vasquez (Downey, Calif.) spearhead the Bison attack, posting a 1.000 OPS each.
In the circle, graduate
Analise De La Roca (San Pedro, Calif.) has accumulated a 3.79 ERA with 48 strikeouts in 17 appearances (11 starts).
MORGAN STATE
MSU (14-11, 5-1 MEAC) comes in after taking two-out-of-three from Norfolk State (March 26-27).
Entering the weekend, Morgan State leads the conference with a 1.64 ERA. Victoria Fletcher guides the Lady Bears pitching staff with a 2.22 ERA with 39 strikeouts.
At the plate, Tayven Rousseau has a team-leading .342 hitting average while producing a 1.029 OPS.
LAST TIMEOUT
Saturday (March 26), HU swept the MEAC doubleheader versus Coppin State at Washington Nationals Youth Academy in southeast D.C. HU won game one in five innings, 12-0, and pulled away in the nightcap to complete the sweep, 10-3.
Sunday's (March 27) contest was postponed due to inclement weather. A makeup date and time is to be determined.
