VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (February 22, 2022) – After Day Two, the Howard University men's track and field team sits in second place at the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Indoor Championships, held inside the Virginia Beach Sports Center in Virginia Beach, Va.
Overall, the Bison have accumulated 50 points in two days, trailing only Norfolk State (59).
In the weight throw, HU produced 22 points, led by third-year Bison
Nnamdi Olebara (Bowie, Md.). The DMV native took gold with a record-setting performance, tossing over 52 feet (16.01 meters), shattering his own previous school mark (15.97 meters).
Senior
Michael Codrington (Brooklyn, N.Y.) joined Olebara on the podium after tossing over 50 feet (15.29 meters).
Junior
Ezra Monteiro (New Port, R.I.) earned four points for the Bison after taking fifth place in the event (15.03 meters).
Other notable field performance included senior
Nathaniel Are (Chicago) tying the school mark in the high jump, launching over six feet (1.86 meters).
On the track, junior
Cameron Kee (Lawnside, N.J.) and freshmen
Kaleb Berry (Duncanville, Texas),
Julian Lawson (Sewell, N.J.) and
Tafari Stephenson (Bowie, Md.) scored three points in the distance medley relay (DMR), finishing sixth overall with a 10:35.44 time.
In the 60-meter hurdles, three Bison advanced to the next round, led by senior
Jermanie Byrd (Miami) with an automatic qualifying time of 8.01.
Fellow classmate
Darian Clyburn (Louisville) and sophomore
Zachary Hawkins (Loganville, Ga.) join Byrd in Wednesday's final round.
