MATCHUP PREVIEW
Â
Saturday's showdown will the 10
th meeting between Howard and Towson with the Bison leading the all-time series, 6-3.
Â
On November 27, 2021, the Tigers defeated HU at Towson, 96-52.
Â
HOWARD
Â
Howard struggled early in both scoring and on defense early, due to some key injuries. But the team has slowly returned to its reputation for balanced scoring and stingy defense.
Coach Ty shared her thoughts on the team's recent improvement stating, "We've talked about being more efficient on the offensive end, and we just hadn't shot the ball well, so these past two games definitely helped with our confidence and knowing we are very capable of scoring points. Defensively, we were taking pride in getting stops but I think we showed that when we want to we can be a solid defensive team and continue to get better each game. "
Â
Junior
Destiny Howell (Queens, N.Y.), the reigning MEAC Player of the Week, has found her range again after some early struggles with shooting. The 6-foot guard leads the team in scoring at 14.4 points per game while also collecting 4.0 rebounds per game.
Â
Aziah Hudson (Baldwin, N.Y.), a graduate transfer guard from Old Dominion University, has proven to be one of the most consistent performers through the eight games, averaging almost 11 points per game. When asked about the New York native Coach Ty added, "Aziah brings experience and good energy. She knows what she doing out there and what it takes to be successful on both ends of the floor. She can score, she's gotten much more comfortable through the season and we expect her to keep getting better."
The floor general, senior guard
Iyanna Warren (Accokeek, Md.), continues to make her mark for the team, averaging 10.6 points per game while leading the team in total steals (16) and total assists (19).
Â
Senior forward
Brooklynn Fort-Davis (Chicago) continues to be a steady force on the defensive end, averaging 5.3 rebounds per game to go along with almost 8.0 points per game.
Â
One of the biggest surprises of late has been
Kaiya Creek (Seat Pleasant, Md.), who has come off the bench and provided a spark in the Bison wins. Coach Ty contributes that to Creek's versatility. "She can go (both) inside and out which creates valuable opportunities on the floor for us."Â The 5-foot-10 junior guard is averaging almost 6.0 points and 4.3 rebounds while leading the team in total blocks with seven.
Â
TOWSON
Â
The Tigers (4-4) have dropped two-in-a-row, the latest a 71-54 home decision to Princeton Monday (December 5). Towson is led by redshirt junior guard Kylie Kornegay-Lucas, who leads the team in scoring (17.4 ppg), rebounding (6.3 per game), total blocks (12) and total steals (26). Senior forward Anissa Rivera (10.0 ppg, 5.7 rpg) and graduate guard Skye Williams (8.3 ppg) are also Tigers to watch.
"Towson handed us a very bad loss last year and I have not forgotten. They are a little different because they have a new coach, but they are returning a lot of the same players. I know they will be fast and athletic, and want to keep the tempo high. We need to contain them and compete on the glass", shared Coach.
Â
LAST TIMEOUT
