Women's Basketball Faces Drake to End Florida Trip

MIAMI, FL - The Howard University women's basketball team will be looking to turn things around when it takes on Drake University on Sunday at 11 am in the Ocean Bank Convocation Center in the consolation game of the FIU Thanksgiving Invitational.  There will be live stats available online.
The Bison (1-4) are coming off a 76-65 loss to host FIU on Friday in which they fell behind in the first quarter and then had to play catchup over the rest of the game.
Senior point guard Iyanna Warren finished with 13 points, with 11 coming from the free-throw line. Transfer Aziah Hudson has come on strong and added 13. Junior guard Kaiya Creek came off the bench to contribute 10 points and junior guard Kaniyah Harris just missed a double double with nine points and nine rebounds to go along with a team-high five assists.
Junior all-conference guard Destiny Howell had a poor shooting night and finished with five points, eight below her average.
The Bison have missed the presence of senior Krislyn Marsh, who is a strong rebounder and defensive player.  She has missed the last three games and is out indefinitely.
"We're still trying to find our rhythm after some earlier injuries, but collectively we still need to play better no matter what the circumstances," said Howard Head Coach Ty Grace following the game.
She added, "The bright spots were that we turned it over less than normal and shot well from the free-throw line."  Howard had only 12 turnovers for the game while shooting 87-percent (13-of-15) from the charity stripe.
In Drake (2-2), Howard faces another stiff challenge.  The Bulldogs dropped a 100-83 overtime decision to UMass in the opening round. The game was tied at 83 at the end of regulations but Drake failed to score in the extra period.  It must be noted that the Bulldogs have knocked off No. 22 Nebraska and lost to No. 4 Iowa in overtime. The high-scoring Bulldogs have eclipsed the 80-point mark in each of their games.
Drake is a veteran team, led by senior forward Maggie Bair (17.0 ppg, 8.8 rpg), redshirt senior forward Grace Berg (14.5 ppg), senior guard Megan Meyer (13.3 ppg) and sophomore guard Katie Dinnebeir (15.8 ppg, 5.0 apg).
"Drake will be a tough team," said Coach Grace. "They are very disciplined and well coached. They shoot the ball very well and are balanced inside and out. We need to be extremely focused defensively and shoot the ball better than we did against FIU. We have a lot of season left to play. We haven't quit. We just need to get back on track and we will."
NEXT UP: Howard will next travel across town to take on American University on Wednesday at 7 pm in Bender Arena. The game will be carried on ESPN+.
