WASHINGTON, D.C.-- Coming off a heartbreaker against Morgan State on Saturday, the Bison will continue their Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference [MEAC] road swing at Coppin State today at 5:30 p.m. in the PEC Arena.
Howard comes off a 67-61 heartbreaker to the Bears, despite three Bison scoring in double-figures led by Brooklynn Fort-Davis game-high 15 points off the bench, Howell [14], and Iyanna Warren [13]. Anzhane' Hutton recorded nine points and a game-high eight rebounds. The Bison could not sustain their lead, as the Bears took a 52-51 lead with 5:20 left. The Bison got to within two points with 32 seconds left but couldn't get the ball to fall. Howard shooting went cold in the fourth quarter, shooting 33 percent from the floor.
Coppin State fell short 71-60 to Norfolk State on Saturday afternoon. Jaia Alexander scored 21 points, and Jewel Watkins Scored a season-high 16 points. The Eagles trailed 42-26 at the half but outscored the host Spartans in the second half and closed the third quarter on a 10-2 run to pull within striking distance. Alexander scored nine points, and Watkins went for seven points in the final ten minutes and got as close as 68-60 with just under a minute left. However, Norfolk State was able to seal the game with three late free throws in the final 45 seconds.
The Bison swept the Eagles last season, winning all four contest. The Bison has won the last ten matchups.

- Head Coach Ty Grace won her 155th game as a head coach versus Frostburg St. and is nine games from reaching the 100 win game mark as a Bison.
- The 2020-21 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Northern Division Champions fell in the finals of the 2021 conference tournament. However, the Bison took the league by storm last season. Despite the pandemic, Howard went 10-2 in conference play and 15-4, with non-conference wins versus LaSalle, George Washington, Mount Saint Mary's, and Richmond.
- The Bison were selected No. 1 in the MEAC Preseason Poll by the league's coaches and media relations personnel.
- Three Bison was named the Preseason All-MEAC Team, Anzhane' Hutton, Kaiya Creek, and Iyanna Warren.
- Howard head coach Ty Grace enters her seventh season at the helm, named 2020-21 MEAC Coach of the Year.
- The Bison only lost one starter from last season's team.
- Last season, Howard posted the best regular-season winning percentage (.823) in school history. In addition, the Bison's defense ranked sixth nationally in field-goal percentage defense (33.9) and three-point field goal defense (25.6). Howard's 28.9 defensive rebounds ranked 30th in the NCAA led by 2020-21 Rookie of the Year Anzhane' Hutton. Hutton was also named to the All-MEAC second team, All-Rookie, and All-Defensive team.
About the Coppin State
Three Eagles average in double figures, led by Jaia Alexander's 15.4 points per game (Leads the MEAC) and 7.5 rebounds per game (3rd in MEAC); Alexander also leads the conference in free-throw field goal percentage at 78 percent. Aliyah Lawson averages 12 points a contest(5th in MEAC) and leads the league in three-point field goals, totaling 37 made threes for the season.
Second-year head coach Laura Harper has the Eagles off to their best start in conference play since the 2016-17 season. CSU started the season 3-1, defeating South Carolina State, FAMU, and North Carolina A&T. Coppin State's eight-win mark is the most wins since the 2016-17 record [8-21 overall, 8-8 MEAC]. Coach Harper upset a surging Marshall 77-69 in December.
