WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Howard University softball team goes on the road to face Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) foe Towson University in a mid-week game on Wednesday, March 10 at Tiger Softball Stadium.Â
First Pitch is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
SERIES
The Tigers lead the all-time series 13-0 winning a pair in 2019. On April 9, 2019, they won 6-4.Â
HOWARD
Howard is coming off of a 3-1 series win over Robert Morris University. RMU took game one in the series. On Sunday's final game, Howard came back from a 9-6, six-inning deficit, recording three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to tie the game at nine. Freshman Sydni Jones came up to the plate after, Junior Kalita Dennis was intentionally walked, and knocked a floater to right-center to score the winning run.Â
The 5-2 start is the best in program history.
Jones recorded seven RBIs, six hits, a double, and scored twice. Graduate Student Kiana Carr recorded 19 strikeouts, two wins, and a save in three appearances. Junior Kalita Dennis (Elk Grove, Ca.) returned to the lineup after missing the series against Bowie St., and her presence was felt after only scoring one run in the first game. She exploded over the next three games, recording seven runs, seven hits, four RBIs, four doubles, walked twice, a solo homerun in the fourth game, and was intentionally walked in extra innings that sparked the winning run. Howard Broke RMU's four-game winning streak after the Colonials opened the season sweeping the four-game series versus North Carolina Central, in run-rule fashion.Â
Dennis was named MEAC player of the week for her performance, while Jones was named rookie of the week.Â
TOWSON
The Tigers went 4-1 over the weekend after hosting Saint Joseph's, Rhode Island, and Coppin. They fell to Saint Joseph 4-8 on Friday then took a pair from both Rhode Island and Coppin. On Saturday, the Tigers defeated the Rams 7-3 and 6-5. On Sunday, they won 3-2 and 13-5 against Coppin. Towson's Melissa Abrahamian was named Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Pitcher of the Week after appearing in three games pitching 13.0 innings and recording a 2-0 record to begin the season. Nicole Kidwiler leads the Tigers with a .600 batting average, playing in all five games going 8-0f-9 with three doubles and one home run. Chloe Poulich is 5-of-8 with four doubles.
In the circle, Julia Jackson has a 3.18 ERA and 1-0 record and Abrahamian is 2-0 with a 3.77 ERA.
