WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Howard University women's basketball team is opening their 41st season in Houston, Texas, facing the University of Houston, Tuesday, Nov. 9, for a 3 pm tip-off at the Fertitta Center to open the 2021-22 season.

SCOUTING the BISON
The 2020-21 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Northern Division Champions fell in the finals of the 2021 conference tournament. However, the Bison took the league by storm last season. Despite the pandemic, Howard went 10-2 in conference play and 15-4, with non-conference wins versus LaSalle, George Washington, Mt. Saint Mary's, and Richmond.
Howard was picked to finish first in the 2021-22 MEAC Conference women's basketball preseason poll, voted on by coaches and sports information directors. In addition, three Bison was named to the Preseason All-MEAC Team, Anzhane' Hutton, Kaiya Creek, and Iyanna Warren.
Howard head coach Ty Grace enters her seventh season at the helm. Coach Grace returns nine players who have significant playing time under their belt. The Bison only lost one starter from last season's team.
Howard posted the best regular-season winning percentage (.823) in school history last season. In addition, the Bison's defense ranked sixth nationally in field-goal percentage defense (33.9) and three-point field goal defense (25.6). Howard's 28.9 defensive rebounds ranked 30th in the NCAA led by 2020-21 Rookie of the Year Anzhane' Hutton. Hutton was also named to the All-MEAC second team, All-Rookie, and All-Defensive team.
Hutton's 186 rebounds ranked first in the MEAC and 117 nationally.
Iyanna Warren, the floor general for the Bison, recorded a stellar sophomore campaign that led Howard and the conference in assists(97), assists per game (5.1), Free throw attempts (136), and free throw made (98).
SCOUTING the COUGARS
In the 2021-22 season, Houston made a post-season appearance in the NIT. The Cougars finished the regular season with a 15-6 overall record and finished third in the AAC, the Houston women's basketball-headed NIT finishing with a 1-1 record.
The Cougars return six starters.
