NEW ORLEANS (October 12, 2020) – The Sun Belt Conference (SBC) unveiled its 2019-20 Academic Honors where Howard University men's soccer team saw 16 Bison acknowledged for their hard work inside the classroom.
"We celebrate these student-athletes and recognize their diligence to excel academically," said SBC Commissioner
Keith Gill. "This group represents the highest level of dedication. We're proud of them for their commitment to academics as they become experts in their field of study."
The league's Commissioner's List honors student-athletes who maintained a 3.5 grade point average (GPA) or better during the 2019-20 academic year. Bison named to the SBC Commissioner's List include
Carlos Caro (Silver Spring, Md./Civil Engineering),
Daniel Hart (Silver Spring, Md./Computer Science),
Tyler Hartman (Havre De Grace, Md./Leisure Studies),
Brandon Hood (Brooklyn, N.Y./Finance),
Emery Simon (Elkhart, Ind./Economics),
Nicholas Turk (Las Vegas, Nev./Leisure Studies) and
Vincent Turk (Cordova, N.M./Management).
The conference's Academic Honor Roll honors those student-athletes who maintained a GPA between 3.0 and 3.49 for the academic year. Bison named to the SBC Academic Honor Roll List include
Joseph Abusada (Houston/Finance),
Rudy Acree (Washington/Political Science),
Israel Chavez (Manassas, Va./Biology),
Robert Davis (Ellicott City, Md./Psychology),
Alex Flores (Severn, Md./Undecided),
Javauni Garwood (Portmore, Jamaica/Biology),
Jaime Lafarga (Madrid, Spain/Leisure Studies),
Chris McGhan (Springfield, Va./Supply Chain Management) and
Malik Saleh (Memphis/Strategic, Legal & Management Communications).
Nearly 2,500 student-athletes were recognized, including 1,378 student-athletes on the Commissioner's List and 1,024 student-athletes on the Academic Honor Roll list.
In the 2021-22 season, Howard joins the Northeast Conference as an associate member in men's soccer.
