WASHINGTON (January 31, 2020) – Howard University men's and women's track & field squads progress in their indoor season Saturday (Feb. 1) at the Navy Invitational II, hosted by the Midshipmen. The one-day event takes place at The Wesley A. Brown Field House in Annapolis, Md.

LAST TIMEOUT
Two weeks ago, the Bison had a solid showing in a pair of meets at the Virginia Tech Invitational (Jan. 17-18) and the Terrapin Invitational (Jan. 18). With their efforts, HU had an additional five student-athletes to qualify for the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Indoor Championships in Landover, Md.
On the men's side, freshman thrower
Nnamdi Olebara (Bowie, Md.) took the title in the men's shot put, throwing 15.10 meters. Also, sophomore
Aariq Nixon (Baltimore) claimed the bronze in the 800-meter run, documenting a time of 1:56.95.
For the women, senior
Sydney Benson (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich.), freshman
Dasia Wilson (Philadelphia) and sophomore
Melanie White (Orlando, Fla.) swept the 800-meter run, placing first (2:16.13), second (2:16.27) and third (2:16.38), respectively.
MEET PREVIEW
The team is looking to have yet another successful weekend as there were many personal bests and first, second, and third place finishes, collectively, two weeks ago.
The Naval Academy will be hosting their third meet of this indoor season. Their first two meets had some excellent competition and the Bison are looking to put up outstanding numbers this weekend as well.
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
Next weekend (Feb. 7-8), the Bison will journey to Columbia, S.C. for the South Carolina Invitational, hosted by the Gamecocks.
