WASHINGTON (January 3, 2020) – After wrapping up their 13-game nonconference slate, the Howard University women's basketball team is ready for its next challenge, the grueling 16-game Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) schedule, starting with a pair of league matchups this weekend.
Saturday (Jan. 4), Howard begins league play at Maryland Eastern Shore. Tipoff is slated for 2 p.m. Two days later (Jan. 6), HU returns to The Burr where the reigning MEAC Tourney Champion, Bethune-Cookman (B-CU), awaits. The action starts 5:30 p.m. on Community Day.

MATCHUP PREVIEWS
HOWARD
HU (8-5) looks to rebound after a tough loss at No. 22 Tennessee. After starting the year 1-2, Howard won seven of their last 10 (7-3) to close out nonconference play. Currently, the Bison are 5-2 away from Burr Gymnasium.
Howard leads the MEAC in three-point percentage (.347), led by third-year sharpshooter
Jayla Thornton (Newark, N.J.) and senior guard
Ayonna Williams (Washington), who tops the league with an incredible 54-percent three-point shooting percentage (14-of-26).
Senior guard
Sarah Edmond (Freeport, N.Y.) ranks second in the conference with 14.5 points per game.
MARYLAND EASTERN SHORE
Eastern Shore (3-10) seeks to get back on track after dropping their last three contests. Entering Saturday, the Hawks begin a three-game home stand where they are currently 3-3 inside the William P. Hytche Athletic Center.
Amanda Carney leads the squad in scoring (11.7 ppg) and rebounding (5.0 rpg) while Porsha Sydnor dishes out a team-leading 4.5 assists per game.
BETHUNE-COOKMAN
Before meeting the Bison, B-CU (8-4) goes to Norfolk, Va., where they face Norfolk State (NSU) in a rematch of the 2019 MEAC Championship game. After starting the season 4-0, the Wildcats finished nonconference play with a 4-4 mark.
Daniella Hatcher spearheads the Wildcats' attack, scoring 12.1 points per game. Defensively, B-CU tops the MEAC in scoring defense, allowing just under 58 points per contest.
LAST TIMEOUT
Sunday (Dec. 29), the Bison ended its nonconference slate with an 88-38 loss at No. 22 Tennessee. With the setback, HU saw its four-game winning streak come to a halt.

Makayla Minett (Chicago) pulled down a career-best nine rebounds while sophomore forward
Krislyn Marsh (Duncanville, Texas) battled inside and finished with eight boards and four points in the loss.

Monday's promotion is Community Day where a group of 10 or more fans will get into the game for only $5.
