LIMERICK, Pa. (January 21, 2020) – Howard University women's bowling team returned to the lanes in arguably their toughest tournament of the season at the Northeast Invitational, hosted by Sacred Heart.
Throughout the three-day event (Jan. 17-19), HU faced seven Top 25 teams from the National Tenpins Coaches Association (NTCA) polls, including No. 1 McKendree twice.
After going winless on Day One (0-5), Howard grabbed its first victory of 2020 with an 815-672 win over New Jersey City (NJCU) in traditional competition. Third-year bowler
Carolyn Williams (Glen Burnie, Md.) led the Bison, tallying 190 total pinfalls against NJCU.
In traditional play, sophomore
Jahnia Phillips (Elmont, N.Y.) averaged a 176 in five matches, including a 208 versus No. 5 Vanderbilt.
On Day Two, the Bison faced three ranked opponents (No. 5 Vanderbilt; No. 8 Stephen F. Austin and No. 20 Lincoln Memorial (Tenn.) while going 1-4 on the day.
Despite dropping the first two contests on Day Three, HU finished the weekend on a high note with a 4-0 sweep over NJCU.
On Feb. 7-9, Howard (30-39) returns to Pennsylvania for the Golden Bear Classic, hosted by Kutztown.
