PRINCETON, N.J. (May 11, 2019) – Howard University women's 4x100 squad begin the weekend with a second-place finish on Day One of the 2019 IC4A/ECAC Outdoor Championships.
The team consisted of junior
Uchechi Onuoha (Yardly, Pa.), sophomores
Jessika Gbai (Philadelphia) and
Ameenah Saalih (Willingboro, N.J.) and freshman
Kennedy Lewis (Atlanta) running a season-best (46.06).
Towson won the event with a 45.40 mark, followed by HU and Ivy-League contender Cornell (46.14).
Individually, third-year runner
Sydney Benson (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich.) competed in the women's 800-meter run where she fell just short of breaking the program record. The Michigan native took 12
th overall in the race, clocking in at a new personal best (2:09.68).
On the men's side, freshmen
Mekhi Abbott (Monroe, N.J.) and
Aariq Nixon (Baltimore) wrapped up their first season with the Bison. Abbott, 2019 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Men's Javelin Champion, finished 17
th (52.36m; 171') while Nixon ran a 1:58.36 time in the 800-meter run.
Howard concludes the weekend on Mother's Day (May 12), starting at 9:30 a.m. with the women's triple jump. At 10:30 a.m., the running events begin with the women's 100-meter dash.
