GREENSBORO, N.C. (November 17, 2019) – Howard University junior
Carolyn Williams (Glen Burnie, Md.) shined at the Vernell Stallings Invitational, hosted by North Carolina A&T State (NCAT), with a career performance in traditional competition.
Saturday (Nov. 16), the third-year bowler averaged a career-best 208.8 in six traditional matches with three 200-games, including a career-high 267 versus Prairie View A&M. Williams finished the day with 1,253 total pinfalls.
Despite Williams' outstanding individual efforts, HU struggled over the weekend.
Like last weekend's conference meet, the Bison face stiff competition throughout each day. Day one saw Howard take on four top 25 programs, followed by three more in traditional play Saturday.
Against tough odds, HU fought their way to four wins, including a big victory over No. 19 UAB, 993-932. In that match, Williams led the way with a 221 performance, followed by
Jahnia Phillips (Elmont, N.Y.) and
Jayla Webster (Woodbridge, Va.) each rolling 200 games in the victory.
Webster produced a 183.3 average while lone senior
Tea Lewis (Chesterfield, Va.) recorded a 182.3 in the six traditional matches.
No. 8 NCAT won the inaugural event while No. 21 Mount St. Mary's placed second overall.
