NORFOLK, Va. (November 12, 2019) – The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) unveiled its women's basketball weekly honors where Howard University's senior
Ayonna Williams (Washington) and redshirt junior
Jayla Myles (Rochester, N.Y.) earned recognition for their outstanding efforts against La Salle (Nov. 5) and UMBC (Nov. 9). The announcement came Tuesday.
Williams was named MEAC Co-Player of the Week while Myles shared the league's top defender award.
Williams, 2019-20 MEAC Preseason All-Conference selection, opened the new campaign averaging 16 points on 44-percent (11-of-25) shooting, including 63-percent (5-of-8) from beyond the arc. The D.C. native also produced 4.5 rebounds, 3.5 steals and 2.0 assists during the two-game span.
After sitting out a year ago due to injury, Myles returned to the hardwood in a big way. The New York product averaged 8.0 boards and 4.0 blocks versus La Salle and UMBC. Saturday (Nov. 9), she recorded her first double-double of the season with 11 boards and 10 points in the win over the Retrievers.
Morgan State's Ja'Niah Henson won MEAC Rookie of the Week while teammate Chelsea Mitchell shared MEAC Co-Defensive Player of the Week with Myles. South Carolina State's Taylor Brown received MEAC Co-Player of the Week, alongside Williams.
