@HowardMSoccer Gears Up For A Pair of Matches

Bison meet Navy in Annapolis Wednesday; HU hosts Yale Friday night

WASHINGTON (September 4, 2018) – After more than a week away from competition, Coach Phillip Gyau and the Howard University Men's Soccer team return to action for two matches in three days.

Wednesday (Sept. 5), the Bison travel to Annapolis, Md. where they will meet Navy. Two days later (Sept. 7), HU returns to The Mecca to host Yale at Greene Stadium. Both matches are set for 7 p.m.

Fans can follow all the action at Navy via live stats. Friday's showdown will also have live stats.

LAST TIMEOUT

On Aug. 28, HU suffered their first setback of the season with a 2-1 decision in favor of LaSalle. In a contest where both teams combined for only 12 shots, Howard capitalized on one of their three attempts, thanks to senior Victor Guirma (New Paltz, N.Y.).

MATCHUP PREVIEW

HOWARD

Howard (1-1) comes into the week following a road loss at La Salle, 2-1. Guirma has paced the offense with two goals on three shots while junior Andres Gomez (Silver Spring, Md.) also scored a goal in the season opener against Bryant. Junior goalkeeper Carlos Caro (Silver Spring, Md.) has notched six total saves in two matches while posting a .667 save percentage and a 1.50 goals-against average in his 180 minutes of work.

NAVY

Navy (0-3-1) continues its search for their first win of the season. Sunday (Sept. 2), the Midshipmen rallied from a one-goal halftime deficit against the College of Charleston to snap their three-match skid to start the season. Jacob Williams scored his first collegiate goal in the 71st minute to guide Navy to the draw. Wednesday's contest will be the first meeting between the two teams since 2012 with the Bison leading the all-time series 12-11-4.

YALE

Like Howard, Yale (1-1) started its 2018 campaign with a season opening victory at Quinnipiac, 1-0. Monday (Sept. 3), the Bulldogs suffered their first loss of the season at the hands of Fairfield, 2-1. Senior Kyle Kenagy and freshman Paolo Carroll have scored Yale's lone two goals on the season. Howard seeks to avenge last year's loss against the Bulldogs where they were shutout at Yale, 3-0.

UPCOMING SCHEDULE

On Sept. 16, Howard begins a three-match road swing in Emmittsburg, Md. where they will face Mount St. Mary's. Game-time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
