Phillip Gyau and the Howard University Men's Soccer team look to get back on track as they close out their three-match road swing in Baltimore against UMBC. Wednesday's midweek showdown is set for 7 p.m. at Retriever Soccer Park.

Sunday (Sept. 16), the Bison found themselves in a familiar spot where they trailed at intermission, 1-0, but tied the contest moments after the break. Despite fighting back, a pair of late goals by St. Francis-Brooklyn would defeat Howard, 3-1, at Brooklyn Bridge Park.
At the 62-minute mark, Howard tied the contest with a goal from junior
Andres Gomez (Silver Spring, Md.), assisted by
Lloyd Pierre (Trinidad & Tobago), 1-0.
Junior
Carlos Caro (Silver Spring, Md.) had a match-high four saves in the loss.

ALL-TIME SERIES
Wednesday night's showdown will be the 19
th meeting between Howard and UMBC with the Retrievers leading the all-time series, 14-2-2. UMBC has not lost in the series since 2002, going 6-0-2 in the previous eight matchups. Last year, the Retrievers defeated the Bison 3-0.
HOWARD
Howard (1-3-1) looks to overcome a slow start and get back in the win column since their opening weekend victory against Bryant, 2-1. Offensively, Gomez and senior
Victor Guirma (New Paltz, N.Y.) spearhead the Bison attack, combining for all five team goals this season. Coach Gyau's bunch has avoid a shutout in 10 of their last 11 matches dating back last season, including the final six contests to finish the 2017 campaign.
UMBC
Saturday's nonconference match for the Retrievers (4-2) will be their final tune-up before conference play begins at New Hampshire (Sept. 22). After starting 3-0, UMBC has lost two-out-of-their-last three contests (1-2), including a 2-0 defeat at Western Michigan. Despite the recent setbacks, the squad returns home where they are 3-1 at Retriever Soccer Park. Cesare Marconi leads the Retriever offense with three goals and three assists for a team-high nine points.
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
Howard begins a three-match home stand, starting Saturday (Sept. 22) when Robert Morris comes to town. Match time is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Greene Stadium.
Also, Saturday's promotion is Community Day where Coach Gyau and the Bison welcome members of the community to the match. Entry is FREE and all are welcome.
