Several Bison Close Out Season at the IC4A/ECAC Outdoor Championships

Only two Bison move on to the NCAA Prelims

PRINCETON, N.J. (May 13, 2018) – On a rainy, gloomy Mother's Day, Director of Track and Field David Oliver and the Howard University Men's & Women's Track and Field teams closed out its season at the IC4A/Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Men's & Women's Outdoor Championships.

The two-day event took place at Weaver Stadium, on the campus of Princeton University, with several Bison wrapping up their campaigns on a high note.

On the men's side, junior Kenneth Chigbue highlighted the day with a third-place finish in the 200-meter dash. The Maryland Product qualified for the 200-meter finals after winning his heat with a 21.93 mark. In the finals, Chigbue improved his time, clocking in at 21.49.

Fellow classmate Korey Lombard just missed qualifying for the men's 200-meter dash; thus, taking ninth overall in the event.

Newcomer Mekhi Closson ended his rookie campaign, posting a 50.20 mark in the men's 400-meter run.

On the women's side, junior Aliyah Hale and freshman Jessika Gbai were on the cusp of making the NCAA East Prelims after solid performances during the season; however, need a big weekend to secure spots.

Both Bison fell short of reaching Tampa, Fla. with a big part due to wet running surface.

Despite the outcome, Gbai wrapped up her freshman year with a seven-place finish in the women's 200-meter sprint. The Philadelphia native reached the finals after cruising through her heat with a 24.40 time. In the finals, she ran 25.90.

Hale took part in the women's 400-meter hurdles where she recorded a 1:03.72 mark.

Freshman Ozioma Scott placed sixth in the women's 400-meter dash, posting a 55.47 time.

Senior Al'Moni Ellis closed out her collegiate career with a 14.52 time in the women's 100-meter hurdles.

In the women's field events, newcomer Rachel Edler earned an eighth-place finish in the triple jump, leaping over 37 feet (11.54 meters).
