PRINCETON, N.J. (May 13, 2018) – On a rainy, gloomy Mother's Day, Director of Track and Field
David Oliver and the Howard University Men's & Women's Track and Field teams closed out its season at the IC4A/Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Men's & Women's Outdoor Championships.
The two-day event took place at Weaver Stadium, on the campus of Princeton University, with several Bison wrapping up their campaigns on a high note.
On the men's side, junior
Kenneth Chigbue highlighted the day with a third-place finish in the 200-meter dash. The Maryland Product qualified for the 200-meter finals after winning his heat with a 21.93 mark. In the finals, Chigbue improved his time, clocking in at 21.49.
Fellow classmate
Korey Lombard just missed qualifying for the men's 200-meter dash; thus, taking ninth overall in the event.
Newcomer
Mekhi Closson ended his rookie campaign, posting a 50.20 mark in the men's 400-meter run.
On the women's side, junior
Aliyah Hale and freshman
Jessika Gbai were on the cusp of making the NCAA East Prelims after solid performances during the season; however, need a big weekend to secure spots.
Both Bison fell short of reaching Tampa, Fla. with a big part due to wet running surface.
Despite the outcome, Gbai wrapped up her freshman year with a seven-place finish in the women's 200-meter sprint. The Philadelphia native reached the finals after cruising through her heat with a 24.40 time. In the finals, she ran 25.90.
Hale took part in the women's 400-meter hurdles where she recorded a 1:03.72 mark.
Freshman
Ozioma Scott placed sixth in the women's 400-meter dash, posting a 55.47 time.
Senior
Al'Moni Ellis closed out her collegiate career with a 14.52 time in the women's 100-meter hurdles.
In the women's field events, newcomer
Rachel Edler earned an eighth-place finish in the triple jump, leaping over 37 feet (11.54 meters).

Dominique Cleggett and sophomore
Uchechi Onuoha will represent Howard at the NCAA East Prelims in Tampa, Fla. (May 24-26) for an opportunity to compete at the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore. (June 6-9)
