CHARLOTTE, N.C. (March 17, 2018) – After a month of training for the outdoor season, Coach
David Oliver and the Howard University Men's & Women's Track & Field teams held their own at the 49er Classic, hosted by Charlotte. The three-day event (March 15-17) took place at the Charlotte-Irwin Belk Track & Field Center.
Sophomore
Uchechi Onuoha and junior
Korey Lombard led the way.
Onuoha finished fifth in the women's 100 hurdles with a 14.21 mark, earning herself a spot at the IC4A/ECAC Championships in May. Furthermore, the Pennsylvania native placed eighth in the 400 hurdles with a 1:03.45 time.
In the women's 4x400 relay, Onuoha joined junior
Aliyah Hale and sophomores
Oluchi Ike and
Sydney Benson where they took 10
th overall.
Lombard also qualified for the IC4A/ECAC Championships in two events. Lombard posted a 10.89 in the men's 100-meter, followed by a 21.91 mark in the 200-meter.
Fellow classmate
Kenneth Chigbue will also attend the meet in May after recording a 22.07 time in the men's 200-meter.
Other noteworthy performances include freshman
Jessika Gbai placing 10
th in the women's 100-meter with a 11.94 mark and senior
Dominique Cleggett jumping 5.80 meters in the women's long jump. As a result, both Bison advanced to the IC4A/ECAC Championships.
The women's 4x100 relay squad of freshmen Gbai,
Zachyre Lynn Lane,
Meenah Saalih, and
Adia Starnes took ninth in the event and were eligible for the IC4A/ECAC Championships.
