Bison Meet Rival Hampton Thursday

Howard faces Lady Pirates in the next installment of the Battle of the Real HU

WASHINGTON (February 7, 2018) – After a big road win at Morgan State (MSU), Coach Ty Grace and the Howard University Women's Basketball team look to keep the momentum going as they meet rival Hampton inside The Burr. Thursday's tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
 
The contest was originally scheduled for Monday, Jan. 8.

MATCHUP PREVIEW

Thursday's clash will be the final meeting between Howard and Hampton as the Lady Pirates will be leaving the conference.  

Howard enters Thursday's showdown riding a two-game winning streak, including a 68-61 victory at Morgan State (Feb. 5). Over the past two seasons, Howard has protected its house with a 15-6 mark, including 6-4 this season. Sophomore Sarah Edmond has paced the Bison with 13.6 points per game. Fellow classmate Ayonna Williams is adding 9.1 points while second-year center Jayla Myles (7.1 points) leads the team with 6.4 rebounds and 46 total blocked shots.
 
On Feb. 6, the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) revealed its weekly honors where Howard University's freshman Jayla Thornton took home the league's top rookie honor where she averaged 14.5 points per game while guiding HU to a perfect 2-0 week with victories over Florida A&M and Morgan State.
 
Hampton comes in riding a three-game winning streak with their recent victories coming at North Carolina A&T State, 63-51, and North Carolina Central, 62-53. Coach David Six's bunch was projected to win the MEAC Title prior to the season. They are led by Preseason All-MEAC selections seniors Monnazjea Finney-Smith and Jephany Brown and junior K'lynn Willis.
 
LAST TIMEOUT

Monday (Feb. 5), the Bison picked up a big road win at MSU, 68-61, inside the Hill Field House.
 
Howard scored 26 points off the bench, led by Thornton. The New Jersey native produced all 15 points (team-high) from downtown (5-of-10). Myles made her presence felt on both ends, finishing with her fourth double-double of the season (11 points and 10 boards) while rejecting three shots in the victory.

UPCOMING SCHEDULE

HU returns to the court Monday (Feb. 12) when Maryland Eastern Shore comes to The Burr. Tip-off is slated for 5:30 p.m.
