Ron Davis and the Howard University (HU) women's bowling team are off to a strong start going 4-1 in traditional play on day one of the Mount St. Mary's Shootout, hosted by Mount St. Mary University.
Sophomore
Carolyn Williams had a phenomenal day on the lanes posting high scores of 190, 209, and a 227. As a result, Williams landed in 9th place out of 83 athletes.
In the team's highest match of the day (938), Junior Tèa Lewis shot a 209 propelling her to the top 25 in singles.
During the opening match HU held a slight lead to Roberts Wesleyan College. The Bison tied the Redhawks with a team score of 888. To determine the winner the teams had to face off in a five frame roll off. The Bison remained strong, staying clean throughout all five frames, posting a five-frame score of 118 against Roberts Wesleyan 75.
The Bison went on to roll games of 806 against Wilmington who scored 908, giving the Bison their only loss of the day. There was an 882 against Medaille who rolled an 863, a 938 against Felician's 887, and a 788 against New Jersey City who shot a 722.
Howard continues with two best of five matches followed by two best of seven matches. The first match of the day was a position round determining who the ladies will compete the rest of the day. Today's match began at 8:30 a.m at the Sunshine Lanes.
