Offensively, the home squad racked up 500 total yards with 343 on the ground, along with 157 yards in the air. Four Bison had 50 or more rushing yards, led by Newton and Anthony Philyaw. Newton finished with 140 rushing yards and two TDs, while Philyaw, the MEAC Preseason Player of the Year, added 93 yards in the victory.

MATCHUP PREVIEW

This will be the 22nd meeting between NCCU and HU with the Eagles leading the all-time series, 11-9-1. North Carolina Central has won five consecutive against the Bison, dating back to 1995. Howard's last victory versus the Eagles came in 1994 with a 35-19 outcome.

Entering Saturday, the Eagles have won 17 consecutive conference games, including a 21-14 win at Florida A&M. North Carolina Central's defense ranks ninth in NCAA Division I-FCS with an average of 8.3 tackles for loss per game. Additionally, NCCU places 16th in FCS with 3.0 sacks per game.

Howard looks to snap North Carolina Central's stranglehold in the conference while defeating NCCU for the first time in D.C since 1978. Newton leads the conference's top rushing attack, averaging 237.3 yards per game. The Atlanta native also has a league-best seven rushing TDs, which is ranked second in the nation.
