BALTIMORE, Md. – The Howard women's bowling team opened 2016-17 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) action with a 4-4 overall record this past weekend. The Bison were 1-3 in Baker matches and 3-1 in traditional competition.
In Saturday's traditional contests, Howard fell to Morgan State (828-858) to start the day before posting wins over Coppin State (774-696), Delaware State (907-893) and Maryland Eastern Shore (917-889).
Three Bison had a total pinfall over 700, led by Trinity Yates with 756 pins in four matches for a 189 average. She had a 196 high-game against UMES.
Kristyn Mitchell was close behind with 725 pins and rolled a team- and season-high 213 against the Hawks. Justice Davis rounded out the trio with a 703 pinfall and 175.7 average. She also had her best game against DSU with 193 pins.
T'ea Lewis knocked down 489 pins on her way to a 163 average. She picked up 177 pins against the Hawks. Sydney Reece bowled three matches for a 476 pinfall. She averaged 158.6 pins and tied her season-high with 192 against the Hornets.
Shykeia Spinks and Joelle McLeod both participated in a single match. Spinks rolled 163 against MSU and McLeod bowled 114 against CSU.
In Sunday's Baker matches, Howard earned in lone victory over CSU (830-786), but was setback by UMES (853-863), MSU (795-821) and DSU (840-922).
The Bison are now 10-19 overall this season, 5-8 in traditional matches and 5-11 in Baker games.
Howard will take part in the Hawk Classic, hosted by UMES, on Friday, Nov. 18 through Sunday, Nov. 20.
