Softball Continues Quest Friday Night

Top-seeded Bison square off against No. 3 Bulldogs for a trip to the title game

WASHINGTON (May 8, 2026) – No. 1 Howard University softball team squares off against No. 3 South Carolina State (SCSU) Friday night for a trip to the MEAC (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) Title game. First-pitch is set for 6 p.m., at NSU Softball Field in Norfolk, Va.

HOWARD
 
HU (26-17) enters Friday's showdown with 11-2 win over No. 5 Morgan State in six innings Wednesday evening (May 6).
 
Howard totaled 12 hits while limiting Morgan State to just three. MEAC Pitcher of the Year sophomore Aiko Conaway (Haymarket, Va.) earned the win after allowing two runs on three hits across 5.1 innings.
 
Earlier this season, the Bison swept SCSU in D.C., while outscoring the Bulldogs, 28-8.
 
SOUTH CAROLINA STATE
 
On May 6, SCSU (22-19) captured back-to-back wins to advance with an 8-0 win over No. 6 Coppin State and an 8-3 victory over No. 2 Delaware State.
 
South Carolina State had seven Bulldogs selected to All-MEAC Team entering the tourney, led by junior Jamaria Charley and MEAC Rookie of the Year Dallas Hill.
 
LAST TIMEOUT
 
Wednesday (May 6), the Bison opened its MEAC Tournament title defense in dominant fashion, defeating No. 5 Morgan State, 11-2 (f/6), at NSU Softball Field in Norfolk, Va.
 
Junior catcher Makyia Taylor (Temecula, Calif.) finished 2-for-4 with two home runs and five RBIs to lead the Howard offense.
 
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
 
With a victory, HU advances to Saturday's title game at 3 p.m. A loss sends HU to the loser's bracket where they play in a elimination game, starting at 11 a.m.
