Softball Clashes with No. 12 Blue Devils Friday

Bison take on Duke in the NCAA Regional Round

WASHINGTON (MAY 14, 2026) – Howard University softball team clashes with No. 12 Duke in the NCAA Regional Round Friday (May 15) in Durham, N.C.  First-pitch is slated for noon, live on the ACC Network.

ALL-TIME SERIES
 
Both programs are set to meet for the third time, including the second time in NCAA postseason action. A year ago, both clubs met in the Durham Regional with the Blue Devils earning a 12-0 run-rule victory.
 
HOWARD
 
Saturday (May 9), Howard captured its second consecutive MEAC (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) Tournament Championship, defeating South Carolina State (SCSU), 11-2 (f/5), in Norfolk, Va.
 
Reigning MEAC Player of the Year senior outfielder Maryn Jordan (San Diego) was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player while junior catcher Makyia Taylor (Temecula, Calif.) and senior pitcher Julia Holt (Tucson, Ariz.) earned MEAC All-Tournament Team honors. Bison head coach Tori Tyson was selected Most Outstanding Coach.
 
DUKE
 
Duke enters the weekend after advancing to the semifinals of the 2026 ACC (Atlantic Coast Conference) Championship in Charlottesville, Va.
 
Redshirt junior Jessica Oakland was selected to the ACC All-Tournament Team after batting 5-for-8 (.625) with four RBI during the two games.
 
LAST TIMEOUT
 
On May 9, HU knocked off SCSU to win its second straight MEAC Tournament crown.   
 
Jordan led Howard, offensively, finishing 3-for-3 with three RBIs, three runs scored, a double and a walk. Taylor added three RBIs while second-year Bison Lauryn Jones (Denton, Texas) recorded an RBI and reached base three times. Junior Tori Trotter (Lacey, Wash.) also contributed an RBI-single while freshman Aniyah Whipper (Elk Grove, Calif.) scored twice.
 
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
 
Saturday (May 16), HU meets either No. 6 Arizona or Marshall in Durham, N.C. Time to be determined.
