Bison take on Chargers in a crucial NEC showdown

WASHINGTON (April 7, 2026) – Howard University women's lacrosse hits the road Wednesday (April 8) to face New Haven (2-8, 1-4 NEC) in a crucial NEC matchup. The opening draw is set for 3 p.m., in West Haven, Conn.

HOWARD
 
Howard (3-9, 2-3 NEC) is looking to continue its momentum after an overtime win at Central Connecticut State (April 4), 10–9, in New Britain, Conn. The Bison look to even their NEC record with a win at New Haven.
 
Graduate attacker Sawyer Walker (Rehoboth Beach, Del.) spearheads the Bison with team-leading 22 points (21 goals & one assist). She also ranks among county leaders with a NEC-best 9.09 draw controls per match, which sits 13th in the nation.
 
Defensively, senior midfielder Kendall Barker (Columbus, Ohio) averages a 1.0 caused turnovers per match while freshman goalkeeper London James-Golas (Annapolis, Md.) has played all 12 contests with 95 total saves.
 
NEW HAVEN
 
New Haven (2-8, 1-4 NEC) enters the matchup following an 12-11 overtime loss to Le Moyne (April 4).
 
Helena Dunwoody leads the Chargers, offensively, recording six goals in the contest. Sophia Devaney added two goals and Caitlin Seleny contributed three assists.
 
New Haven looks to secure its second NEC victory in its home stadium against the Bison.
 
LAST TIMEOUT
 
On April 4, Howard earned a 10-9 overtime victory at Central Connecticut State in NEC action.
 
Howard finished with 10 goals on 23 shots and controlled possession with a dominant edge in draw controls while making key saves down the stretch to secure the win.
 
Howard was led by freshman midfielder Sophia Lima (Altadena, Calif.), who scored a game-high four goals on five shots. Sophomore midfielder Leah Croom (Falmouth, MA) added two goals and one assist for three points.
 
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
 
Following Wednesday's contest, the Bison will return home to host Mercyhurst in NEC action Saturday (April 11). The opening draw is set for noon at Greene Stadium in D.C.
