GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Howard University women's golf delivered a strong performance at the Lady Bison Intercollegiate, finishing second overall after three rounds at the annual event held March 1–3 in Gainesville, Florida.
Howard posted rounds of +19, +11 and +22 to finish the tournament at +52, securing the runner-up position behind team champion UAlbany (+38). The Bison finished ahead of Youngstown State (+56), North Carolina Central (+86) and UMES (+94) in the 13-team field.
Leading the way for Howard was
Paris Fieldings (Chesapeake, VA), who finished fourth overall at +11. Fieldings opened the tournament with an impressive +1 round before adding +2 and +8 across the final two rounds to secure her top-five finish.
Howard placed three golfers inside the top five, highlighted by
Morgan Horrell (Dallas, TX) and
Marley Franklin (Los Angeles, CA), who both tied for fifth at +12.
Horrell rebounded after an opening round +8 with consistent play over the final two rounds, carding +2 and +2 to climb the leaderboard. Franklin opened with a +5 before posting rounds of +1 and +6 to remain among the tournament's top performers.
Sophomore
Laniah Moffett (Waterbury, CT) also delivered a solid showing, finishing tied for 12th at +18 with rounds of +5, +6 and +7.
Lena Durette (Scottsdale, AZ) rounded out Howard's scoring lineup with a tie for 18th place at +21, posting rounds of +8, +6 and +7.
Freshman
Mia Melendez (Ann Arbor, MI) and junior
Sydnee Gaines (Middle River, MD) also competed for the Bison during the tournament.
Howard returns to action March 8–10 at the Alabama State Spring Classic, hosted by Alabama State University in Montgomery, Alabama.
