Men’s Track & Field Takes Fifth at the MEAC Indoor Championships

Wray, relay squad close out meet with gold

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (February 23, 2026) – Howard University men's track & field program took fifth overall at the MEAC (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) Indoor Championships. The two-day (Feb. 22-23) meet was held at the Virginia Beach Sports Center in Virginia Beach, Va.
 
Collectively, the Bison finished with 90 points through 17 events.
 
In the field, fifth-year senior Sean Wray (Stafford, Va.) led the way with a victory in the triple jump (15.12 meters; 49'7.25").
 
Sophomores Solomon Young (Charlotte, N.C.) and Benjamin Hilliard (Indianapolis) scored in the weight throw, earning sixth (14.32 meters; 46'11.75") and seventh (13.56 meters; 44'6"), respectively.
 
On the track, senior Dylan Gaines (Houston), junior Emerson McKindra (Linden, N.J.) and sophomores Elijah Grant (Fort Mills, S.C.) and Jayvian Greene (Gainesville, Fla.) grabbed gold in the 4x400 relay, clocking in at 3:12.02.
 
Individually, Gaines secured fourth in the 200-meter dash (21.16) while McKindra claimed seventh in the 400-meter dash (49.01).
 
DMV native sophomore Drew Dillard (Silver Spring, Md.) earned silver in the 60-meter hurdles, recording a 7.90 mark. seniors Justin Watterson (Las Vegas) and Jorim Bangue (Yaounde, Cameroon) also competed, grabbing fourth (8.00) and sixth (8.03), respectively.
Rookie Ashton Thomas (Greensboro, N.C.) took home bronze in the 800-meter run, registering a 1:51.92 mark.
 
Other noteworthy performance included Virgina native graduate Abraham Evans (Virginia Beach) earning sixth place in the 60-meter dash (6.84).
 
Norfolk State won the 2026 MEAC Indoor Championship for the fifth year in a row, tallying 124.5 points. Delaware State finished runner-up (106 points), followed by South Carolina State (101 points).
 
On March 13-14, several Bison travel to Fayetteville, Ark. for the NCAA Indoor Championships.
