VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (February 22, 2026) – Howard University men's track & field team sits in third place after Day One of the MEAC (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) Indoor Championships, held at the Virginia Beach Sports Center in Virginia Beach, Va.
HU tallied 33 points on the opening day.
Sophomore
Drew Dillard (Silver Spring, Md.) led the way, winning the high jump (2.10 meters).
Fifth-year Bison
Sean Wray (Stafford, Va.) took home silver in the long jump, leaping 7.13 meters.
Sophomore
Solomon Young (Charlotte, N.C.) and rookie
Maltius Morrissey (Tampa, Fla.) rounded out the field events with third-place finishes in the shot put (15.95 meters) and pole vault (3.96 meters), respectively.
On the track, Dillard and seniors
Justin Watterson (Las Vegas) and
Jorim Bangue (Yaoundé, Cameroon) reached the 60-meter final round after running AQ times of 7.92, 8.04 and 8.14, respectively.
Graduate
Abraham Evans (Virginia Beach, Va.) returned home, making the 60-meter dash final with an automatic qualifying mark of 6.77.
Newcomer
Ashton Thomas (Greensboro, N.C.) ran an AQ time of 1:54.32 in the 800-meter run, securing a spot in Monday's final round.
Senior
Dylan Gaines (Houston) and junior
Emerson McKindra (Linden, N.J.) punched their tickets for Monday, earning non AQ marks in the 200-meter (21.15) and 400-meter (48.30), respectively.
Norfolk State holds the top spot after Day One with 52.5 points, followed by Delaware State (43 points).
The MEAC Championships wrap up Monday (Feb. 23), starting at 10:30 a.m. Bison Nation can watch the conclusion on ESPN+ at 1:55 p.m.
