Softball Heads to the annual HBCU Invitational

Bison set to play five games in Georgia

WASHINGTON (February 12, 2025) – The Howard University softball team travels to Georgia for the third annual HBCU Invitational, featuring teams from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC), Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) and Coastal Athletic Association (CAA).
 
The Lady Bison open the tournament against Alabama A&M (AAMU) Friday (Feb.13) at 10
a.m. Following AAMU, Howard meets Southern later that day at 12:15 p.m. They have another two games Saturday (Feb. 14), facing Texas Southern at 10 a.m., and North Carolina A&T State at 2:30 p.m.. HU's final game of the tournament against Alcorn State is scheduled for Sunday (Feb. 15) at 10 a.m.
 
WEEKEND PREVIEW
 
HOWARD
 
Last weekend (Feb. 6-8), the Lady Bison finished with a 3-2 record in the Campbell Stampede tournament in Buies Creek, N.C.
 
The Bison earned wins over Tennessee Tech and Florida A&M behind strong offensive performances from junior Merci Hart (Los Angeles), 2025 MEAC Rookie of the Year sophomore Lauryn Jones (Denton, Texas), 2026 MEAC Preseason Player of the Year graduate Taylor Ames-Alexander (Lancaster, S.C.), junior Wisdom Colbert (Jacksonville, Fla.) and freshman Amirah Lenon (Chandler, Ariz.).
 
ALABAMA A&M
 
Alabama A&M opened its 2026 season at the River City Classic, finishing with a 3-1 record. The Bulldogs earned wins over Arlington Baptist (14-3), Alcorn State (7-6) and Dallas Christian (11-8) before falling to Grambling State (15-12).
 
SOUTHERN
 
Southern opened its 2026 season at the Trojan Classic, finishing with an 0-4 record. The Jaguars suffered losses to North Alabama (16-4), Middle Tennessee (11-1), Chattanooga (10-2) and Troy (10-0).
 
TEXAS SOUTHERN
 
Texas Southern opened its 2026 season at the East Texas A&M Leadoff, finishing with a 3-2 record. The Tigers fell to South Dakota State (4-1) and Stephen F. Austin (4-3) but earned wins over Bucknell (7-6), St. Bonaventure (9-1) and East Texas A&M (4-2).
 
NORTH CAROLINA A&T STATE
 
North Carolina A&T State began its 2026 season at the Heart of Georgia Classic, finishing with a 2-4 record. The Aggies earned wins over Maine (3-2) and Evansville (7-6) but suffered losses to Mercer (11-2), Maine (10-2), Mercer (11-2) and Western Carolina (12-4).
 
ALCORN STATE
 
Alcorn State opened its 2026 season at the River City Classic, finishing with a 1-3 record. The Braves earned a win over Arlington Baptist (7-3) but suffered losses to Alabama A&M (7-6), Jackson State (15-5) and Dallas Christian (16-6).
 
LAST TIMEOUT
 
At the Campbell Stampede, Howard opened the weekend with a 6-3 win over Tennessee Tech. The Lady Bison then fell to Florida A&M (6-5) before bouncing back later that day with a 12-10 victory over the Rattlers. Saturday (Feb. 7), Howard secured another win against Tennessee Tech (3-2) before closing the tournament with a 7-3 loss at Campbell.
 
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
 
On Feb. 20-22, HU travels to Baton Rouge, La., to compete in the Purple & Gold Challenge, hosted by LSU.
