Men’s Basketball Unveils 2026-27 Schedule

Bison set to play challenging 32-game slate

WASHINGTON (October 27, 2026) - Following one of the most successful campaigns in school history, the Howard University men's basketball team will be looking to continue that success during the upcoming 2026-27 season.

The schedule is a veritable assortment for HU fans and has a little of something for everyone.  Everything from Ivy League matchups to HBCU rivalries and classics to the always challenging MEAC (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) regular season and tournament play. The Howard team will be on display to Bison fans throughout the country.

Howard opens the season Monday (November 2) at Yale in New Haven, Conn., a rematch from last season. Then, the Bison have road games at Alcorn State (November 9) and Penn (October 12), another Ivy League team.

The Bison open the home schedule against Stetson Thursday (November 12). Then, HU plays at Davidson on (November 14).

Howard returns home for a matchup against Duquesne Wednesday (November 18). The Bison will stay home for a November 23 game against Notre Dame of Maryland, followed by a road game at the College of Charleston (November 29).

The Bison will host Grambling State Thursday (December 3) in a rematch from last year when the Tigers upset Howard inside The Burr. Then, HU will compete in one of the more intriguing tournaments on their schedule when they take on rival Hampton in the Chris Paul HBCU Classic at the CareFirst Arena in Southeast D.C.

The Bison will begin a three-game homestand with games against Loyola of Chicago (December 10), Towson (December 14) and longtime rival North Carolina A&T State (December 17).

Howard will then travel to El Paso, Texas to participate in the UTEP Christmas Classic, playing the host Miners Sunday (December 20) and either Kent State or Omaha the next day (December 21). This tournament is of particular note because the Miners of UTEP (then Texas El Paso) was the first team with all Black players to win the NCAA Tournament.

The Bison will close out the 2026 portion season when they host crosstown foe Bowie State on New Year's Eve (December 31).

MEAC play gets underway Saturday (January 2) when Howard hosts South Carolina State.

The Bison will step out of conference when they host Morehouse College in the annual MLK Classic (January 10) inside The Burr.

In what could be one of the more exciting games on the schedule is the NBA HBCU Classic during NBA All Star weekend. Howard will take on Tennessee State (TSU) Friday (February 19) in Phoenix. This is just not another classic, it has special meaning.

"You could not write a better script for the NBA HBCU All Star Classic," said Howard men's basketball head coach Kenneth Blakeney. "Two of the top HBCU teams and there are a lot more story lines. Both coaches (Blakeney and TSU head coach Nolan Smith) are Duke grads and DMV natives. It is an honor to be selected from by the NBA and be a part of their All-Star weekend.

The expectations and anticipation for schedule and the upcoming season has been enhanced by the increased national exposure it is going to get. So, it should be as no surprises that alums and fans will be able to see the Bison in actions on a number of national platforms. HU will be carried by the MEAC Network, ESPN, HBCU GO and now BET.

"This is certainly a new partnership, so we are going to be exploring this for the first time and how everything works and evolves," noted Blakeney of the new partnership with BET, which used to be the first and only network to carry HBCU games. "But I am truly excited about the possibilities of what it can become. And for them to identify Howard University as the college team that they wanted to jump back and partnership with and start covering is unbelievable."

Actual times and the broadcast sites will be listed later on www.hubison.com.

Team captain Ose Okojie (Brampton, Canada), a graduate member of the program for the past four years, offered his perspective on the increased exposure from a personal standpoint.

"I am from Canada so when I came to Howard, there were not a lot of opportunities for my family and friends there to see us play," noted Okojie. "Now, they came see Howard more often and it is something I never imagined."
