WASHINGTON (September 21, 2026) - The Howard University athletic student manager program has produced a number of graduates who have gone on to prominent positions in the sports industry.  The list includes Michael Lindo (NBA), Faret Estriplit (Professional Athletes representative), AJ Ross (CBS reporter), Janice Pettyjohn (Howard Director of Player Personnel & On-Campus Recruiting) and of course, the pioneer, NBA Executive Lamont Fain.
 
The latest in that distinguished group is Na'im Briggs being named the Director of Operations for the Howard University men's basketball program.
 
A 2025 HU graduate with a degree in political science and a minor in secondary education, Briggs has paid his dues.
 
"I was astounded when I first learned about being hired as director of basketball operations," remarked Briggs on his hire. "It means a lot to come back to this position where I served. I am humbled that they trusted me enough to appoint me to a huge and impactful role."
 
He served a four-year stint as manager of the program, including three as head statistics manager.
 
Following graduation, he was hired by USA Basketball (USAB) as men's national team intern.
 
Daniel G. Marks, Howard men's basketball General Manager & NIL strategist, oversees the student manager program, which has been instrumental in putting together the team that has played a great role in the success of the men's team, which has had three NCAA appearances the past four years.
 
"Na'im is a great example of the old adage that you never know who is watching," offered Marks. "At a 2022 practice where we had USA basketball coaches in attendance, Na'im was flying around to mop up wet spots throughout. His energy and hustle got him noticed to where they offered him a chance to help with their practices in D.C. That led to a series of opportunities with USAB."
 
In his new role, Briggs oversees student managers, liaison, community outreach to alumni, logistics and day-to-day team operations.
 
"Now, Na'im journey has come full circle as he returns as Director of Basketball Operations." Marks added. "He set the standard for the student manager program during his time at as an undergraduate. Seeing him return to a full-time position with Howard is tremendously rewarding and a great development that takes place within out student managers."
 
While Briggs's educational pursuits were not necessarily in the area of sports and athletics, the Colorado Springs native, sees a connection.
 
"It is great opportunity for my growth as a professional," Briggs continued. "I am looking forward to make it all work for the success of the program."
