Women’s Hoops Heads to Coppin State Thursday Night

Bison take on Eagles in a pivotal MEAC showdown

BALTIMORE (January 21, 2026) – Howard University women's basketball team will be looking to extend its current win streak when it travels to Baltimore to take on the Eagles of Coppin State (CSU) in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) showdown Thursday (Jan. 22) at 7 p.m., inside the Physical Education Complex Arena.

Saturday (Jan. 17), senior forward Zennia Thomas (Cleveland) scored the last eight points of the game during a 1:46 stretch to give the Bison a hard-fought 69-61 win over North Carolina Central at McDougal-McLendon Arena.
 
COPPIN STATE
 
Sunday (Jan. 18), the Eagles (4-16, 2-2 MEAC) are coming off a 90-48 home loss to No. 2 State Carolina. Coppin State was led by senior guard Khila Morris with a team-high 20 points on 8-of-15 shooting from the floor.

Howard is led by Ty Grace (New Haven, '99), who is in her 11th season and the second winningest coach in school history. CSU is led by Darrell Mosley (Delaware State, '15), who is his first season.
 
SERIES RECORD
 
Howard has won three-in-a-row in the series, including last year's 70-60 win in Baltimore. The Eagles last won, 63-58, in Baltimore (January 29, 2024). This is the 84th meeting between the two programs since 1985 and the Bison leads the series, 53-30.

Howard is holding opponents to 26-percent shooting from three and allowing only 63 points per game…Some of Howard's success in close victories has been its free throw shooting, converting on 71-percent from the charity stripe…The vaunted Howard defense continues to be its staple, recording almost 20 points off opponents' turnovers while also averaging 10.1 steals and almost 4.0 blocks…Nationally, senior forward Nile Miller (Woodbury, N.J.) is tied for 31st in total steals…Thomas, the early leading candidate for MEAC Player of the Year, is third in free throw attempts …Howard is the preseason pick to win the MEAC…Miller and Thomas are preseason First Team All-MEAC selections…Thomas has reached double figures in all but three games this season and has recorded seven double doubles…In the MEAC, Howard leads the conference in scoring offense (64.8 ppg), field goal shooting percentage (39-percent), assists, assists/turnover ratio, free throw shooting percentage (70-percent) and three-point shooting percentage defense (27-percent)…Individually, Thomas leads the MEAC in scoring (15.4 ppg), rebounding (7.7 rpg) and field goal percentage (45-percent)…Redshirt junior guard Zoe Stewart (Terre Haute, Ind.) ranks seventh in scoring (12.1 ppg), fourth in field goal percentage (42-percent) and 10th in three pointers made…Miller is third in steals, seventh in blocked shots and ninth in rebounds…Freshman guard Ariella Henigan (Chicago) is fourth in free throw shooting percentage (80-percent) and eighth in assists…Junior forward Rayne Durant (New Haven, Conn.) is eighth in blocks…It must be noted that Howard has played the past three games without the services of junior guard Destiny Bynum-Johnson (Newark, N.J.), who is out definitely with an injury.…Henigan has scored in double figures six-of-the-last-seven games while recording 23 assists during that stretch…Howard is the only team in the MEAC with an overall winning record.

In the MEAC, the Eagles rank second in team offensive rebounds (13.3) and third in rebounding margin…Individually, Morris is having an outstanding season, ranking third in three-point shooting percentage (37-percent), fourth in scoring (12.8 ppg), sixth in assists and field goal shooting percentage (41-percent) and eighth in three pointers made…Paris McBride ranks second in free throw shooting percentage (84-percent), fourth in assists and three pointers made, fifth in assists/turnover ratio and eighth in three-point shooting percentage…Erin Henry ranks ninth in three pointers made per game…Lara Sosa is sixth in rebounding…Sydney Burris is sixth in blocks.
