Bison look to keep momentum going in the Empire State

WASHINGTON (January 16, 2026) – Howard University track & field program heads to the Empire State for the annual HBCU Showcase Saturday (Jan. 17).

MEN
 
On the track, senior sprinter Dylan Gaines (Houston) sits 37th in the country with a 21.52 mark in the 200-meter dash.
 
Sophomore transfer Drew Dillard (Silver Spring, Md.) headlines the 60-meter hurdles, clocking in with the 23rd fastest time in the nation (7.91).
 
In the field, Dillard ranks 35th in the high jump (2.07 meters) while fifth-year senior Sean Wray (Stafford, Va.) rounds out at 35th in the triple jump (14.94 meters).
 
WOMEN
 
Nationally, three Bison are ranked top 45 in the 60-meter hurdles: Marcia Sey (10th); Gabby White (35th) and Lindsay Johnson (41st). Sey (London, United Kingdom) also sits 44th (7.44) in the 60-meter dash.
 
Junior Yahnari Lyons (Hampton, Ga.) and seniors Zoe Turner (Mableton, Ga.) and Aniya Woodruff (Harrisburg, N.C.) rank among the nation's top sprinters in the 200-meter dash, posting 24.11 (26th), 24.16 (27th) and 24.33 (44th) times, respectively.
 
Wednesday (Jan. 14), the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) revealed its women's track & field team where a pair of Bison acknowledged for their outstanding efforts at the annual Rod McCravy Invitational: Sey won MEAC Women's Track Athlete of the Week while senior Kelis Armstrong (Plano, Texas) grabbed the league's Field Athlete of the Week.
 
LAST TIMEOUT
 
HU returned from the winter break competing in the Rod McCravy Invitational (Jan. 9-10), hosted by the University of Kentucky, and the Penn Select (Jan. 10), hosted by the Quakers.
 
On the men's side, Dillard and senior Jorim Bangue (Yaoundé, Cameroon) took second (7.91) and third (8.02), respectively, in the 60-meter hurdles. Dillard also competed in the field, placing second overall (2.05 meters) in the high jump.
 
For the women, rookie Mmekom Inyang (Richmond Hill, Ga.) led the charge in Philly, winning the 60-meter hurdles with an 8.52 mark.
 
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
 
On Jan. 23-24, HU goes back to the City of Brotherly Love (Philadelphia) for the Penn 10 Elite, hosted by the Quakers.
