NORFOLK, Va. (September 8, 2025) – The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) uncovered its women's volleyball weekly awards where Howard University swept all four accolades after winning the 2025 UNF Invitational (Sept. 5-7), hosted by North Florida (UNF). The announcement came Monday afternoon.
Graduate
Aziah Buckner (Memphis, Tenn.) won MEAC Player of the Week while senior
Leah Reeves (Allen, Texas) took home Setter of the Week. Redshirt sophomore
Zenai Jethroe (Dallas) earned Defensive Player of the Week while fellow Texan freshman
Alexys James (Houston) grabbed the conference's Rookie of the Week.
Buckner wrapped up the weekend with back-to-back double-doubles against Presbyterian (Sept. 6) and North Florida (Sept. 7). She was named tournament MVP after averaging a double-double (11.3 kills & 10.3 digs), along with 4.0 service aces, in three wins.
Reeves totaled 112 assists (11.20 avg.) over the weekend, including a season-high 46 assists in the victory over Presbyterian (PC). She added 21 digs, nine blocks and seven aces.
Jethroe was a defensive force at the UNF Invite, finishing with 18 total blocks (one solo). Offensively, she produced 24 kills with a .354 hitting percentage and was named to the All-Tournament Team, alongside Buckner and senior
Rya McKinnon (Hoover, Ala.).
For the second consecutive week, James took home the league's top rookie honor after racking up 27 digs, 18 kills, eight service aces, seven blocks and a pair of assists.
Howard faces North Carolina A&T State at The Burr Friday (Sept. 12) for Greek Night. First-serve at 6 p.m. Two days later (Sept. 14), HU welcomes crosstown rival American for a nonconference showdown. Match time is slated for 1 p.m. Both contests are live on ESPN+.
