NORFOLK, Va. (November 19, 2025) – The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) uncovered its women's volleyball postseason honors and major awards where Howard University saw four Bison acknowledged for their outstanding performances during the 2025 regular season. The announcement came Wednesday evening during the league's annual awards banquet.
Senior
Leah Reeves (Allen, Texas) highlighted the night, winning MEAC Setter of the Year for the second straight season. She topped the conference in multiple categories, including assists per set (10.1), total assists (1,006) and aces per set (0.45). The Texas native was also named to the All-MEAC First Team.
Senior outside hitter
Rya McKinnon (Hoover, Ala.) and redshirt sophomore middle blocker
Zenai Jethroe (Dallas) joined Reeves on the All-MEAC First Team. McKinnon, a three-time MEAC Player of the Year recipient, led the league with 4.02 kills per set while the Dallas product ranked first in blocks per set (1.01).
Freshman standout
Alexys James (Houston) earned a spot on the All-MEAC Second Team and All-Rookie Team. She finished among the league leaders in total service aces (6
th) and aces per set (10
th).
Coppin State (CSU) senior outside hitter TaKenya Stafford was named MEAC Player of the Year. CSU's Cherisse Atilano was selected Rookie of the Year while teammate Coco Figueroa earned Defensive Player of the Year. Coppin State head coach Tim Walsh was voted Coach of the Year.
The postseason teams and major awards were voted by the league's head coaches and sports information directors.
Howard opens the tourney Thursday (Nov. 20) against No. 7 Norfolk State. First serve is set for 5 p.m., inside PEC Arena in Baltimore.
