Volleyball Receives AVCA Team Academic Award

Bison acknowledged for academic excellence

LEXINGTON, Ky. (July 21, 2025) – The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) revealed its 2025 Team Academic Award list, sponsored by INTENT, where Howard University was selected for its academic excellence during the 2024-25 calendar year. The announcement came Monday afternoon.

HU was acknowledged for maintaining a year-long 3.30 grade point average (GPA). This is the fourth time in program history earning the prestigious award.

"It is very exciting to see that the record-setting, on-court successes during the 2024-25 season have extended to the classroom," says AVCA CEO Jaime Gordon. "The fact that more programs earned the Team Academic Award than ever before is evidence of how committed our coaches are when it comes to helping their players reach their goals as both students and athletes."

Overall, the AVCA acknowledged more than 1,400 collegiate and high school teams throughout the country.

Howard finished the 2024 season with a 23-6 mark (14-0 MEAC) while winning the MEAC (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) Regular Season crown.

On Aug. 29, HU opens its 2025 campaign versus crosstown rival George Washington inside The Burr. First-serve is slated for 6 p.m.
