Senior Spotlight Featuring Dylan West

A sit down with two-time MEAC Champion Dylan West

WASHINGTON (June 24, 2025) – Howard University senior journalism major Sareyah Rudd rolls on with another senior spotlight, featuring two-time Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Champion and member of the 2025 NFF (National Football Foundation) Hampshire Honors Society Dylan West (Akron, Ohio) for a quick Q & A session.

Q: How did you get started in football?
A: I started playing football when I was a kid. I was always active and competitive and football quickly became my outlet. It gave me discipline, a sense of purpose and taught me how to handle pressure early on.

Q: What kept you motivated?
A: My motivation came from wanting to make my family proud and to represent where I come from. I have always had goals bigger than myself and knowing that football could open doors academically and professionally kept me pushing through the tough times.

Q: If you were not competing in football, what other sport would you play?
A: I would probably be playing baseball. I have always had a love for the game of baseball and the competitiveness of being perfect all nine innings.

Q: What are your plans after graduation?
A: I plan to pursue a career in business marketing consulting. I want to help companies grow, improve their brand strategies and connect with diverse audiences. Eventually, I hope to launch a few ventures of my own.

Q: What is your favorite memory from Howard?
A: My favorite memory is winning the 2023 MEAC Championship and seeing the entire student body and alumni base rally behind us. That energy was unmatched and reminded me why I chose Howard — to be part of something bigger than myself.

Q: What advice would you give future Bison?
A: My advice would be to embrace the journey — the highs and the lows. Howard will challenge you, but it will also shape you. Stay true to who you are, build genuine relationships and always keep your vision bigger than your circumstances.

Q: Who would you like to thank?
A: I want to thank my family for always believing in me, my coaches for pushing me beyond my limits, my teammates for becoming lifelong brothers and Howard University for giving me a platform to grow as a student, athlete and man.
