Softball Meets South Carolina State for the MEAC Championship

Top seeded Bison take on No. 6 Lady Bulldogs Saturday

WASHINGTON (May 9, 2025) – Top seed Howard University softball team meets No. 6 South Carolina State (SCSU) for the 2025 MEAC (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) Championship Saturday (May 10). First-pitch is slated for noon, live on ESPN+.

HOWARD
 
HU (30-18) entered the tourney as the No. 1 seed and won its first two matchups versus No. 4 Morgan State Wednesday (May 7), 5-1, and No. 3 Delaware State (DSU) Thursday (May 8), 17-5.
 
Tuesday (May 6), the MEAC revealed its softball postseason teams and major awards where HU saw a program-best 11 Bison acknowledged for their incredible performances during the 2025 season, highlighted by freshman standout Lauryn Jones (Denton, Texas) winning the league's prestigious Rookie of the Year award.
 
SOUTH CAROLINA STATE
 
After dropping its tourney opener versus DSU Tuesday (May 7), 4-1, the Lady Bulldogs (17-21) faced three elimination games and walked away victorious. SCSU has eliminated three programs during its latest hot streak: Delaware State; Morgan State and Norfolk State.
 
South Carolina State is led by the foursome of Madison Boyd, Destiny Calloway, Jamaria Charley and MEAC Player of the Year Taylor Ames-Alexander.
 
LAST TIMEOUT
 
HU made its second MEAC Championship game in four years with Thursday (May 8) night's 17-5 win over DSU at NSU Softball Field.
 
Junior Maryn Jordan (San Diego) led the Bison with three runs scored while senior Sidney Fletcher (Whittier, Calif.) added four hits and three RBIs.
 
On the mound, senior Mia Gonzales (Atwater, Calif.) posted her third win of the season.
 
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
 
With a victory, HU advances to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2022.
