WASHINGTON (May 7, 2025) – Howard University senior journalism major Sareyah Rudd continues the Senior Spotlight series with two-time Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Champion Jamel Stewart (Richmond, Va.) from the football team.
 
Q: What is your favorite part about football?
A: My favorite part about football is the opportunities that I have received and the bonds and relationships I made, especially when running out on the field with my brothers.
 
Q: How did you get started in football?
A: My counselor actually really got me into football. They said it was a way to help me channel my anger somewhere positive (lol).
 
Q: What kept you motivated?
A: My mother kept me motivated because she kept pushing me when I wanted to give up. Just watching her growing up really motivated to me the best.
 
Q: If you were not competing in football, what other sport would be competing in?
A: I will say baseball and basketball because I was into those sports in high school as well.
 
Q: Who is your favorite athlete and why?
A: My favorite athlete is Ray Lewis (NFL Hall of Famer) because seeing how much the game helped with his personal life and his passion for the game inspired me.
 
Q: What's your favorite memory at Howard?
A: I have a few memories I will cherish but my top two.
 
One is the summer of my freshman year, you just had to be there to know (lol) and second is when we went to the Atlanta for a week during the Celebration Bowl, that was a great experience.
 
Q: What advice would you give future Bison?
A: For future Bison, the road to success is not an easy one. There will be doubters everywhere to attempt to bring you down but do not let them. Keep your eyes on the prize and welcome to The Mecca!
