NORFOLK, Va. (April 28, 2025) – The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) revealed its softball weekly awards where Howard University saw senior
Kenna Higa (Honolulu) earn the league's Player of the Week honor. The announcement came Monday afternoon.
Higa helped the Bison secure the regular season title with a series sweep at Norfolk State, batting .583 (7-of-12) with six runs scored, five RBIs, three doubles, two stolen bases and a homer.
This season, she ranks among the league leaders in several categories, including batting average (2
nd), slugging percentage (2
nd) and OPS (2
nd).
Graduate pitcher
Ameenah Ballenger (Lansdown, Pa.) and newcomer
Lauryn Jones (Denton, Texas) received honorable mention.
North Carolina Central rookie Daiyah Bailey was named MEAC Rookie of the Week while Delaware State sophomore Kristen White garnered Pitcher of the Week.
Tuesday (April 29), Howard (26-17) faces Big Ten opponent Maryland in College Park, Md., at 6 p.m.
