Track & Field Heads Back to the Sunshine State

Bison prepare for their second stint in Florda at the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational

WASHINGTON (April 17, 2025) - Howard University men's and women's track and field will venture off to Gainesville, Fla. (April 18-19) to compete in a SEC-hosted meet, the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational, hosted by the Florida Gators. The two-day event will be Florida's final home meet of the outdoor season, taking place at James G. Pressly Stadium, Percy Beard Track (325 Woodlawn Dr, Gainesville, FL 32608).

MEET PREVIEW
 
The outdoor action in Florida kicks off at noon Friday (April 18) with the men's hammer throw leading the field events while the women's 200-meter dash opens the competition on the track. The first day of field events concludes around 7:45 p.m., with the women's shot put while the track events wrap up with the women's and men's 5,000-meter finals, scheduled for 8:15 p.m. and 8:37 p.m., respectively.
 
Saturday's (April 19) competition begins bright and early in the field with the women's discus at 9 a.m., followed by the start of track events shortly after at 9:30 a.m., with the women's 100-meter hurdles final. The women's and men's 4x400-meter relay final will end the weekend in Florida, slated for 5:40 p.m. and 6:07 p.m., respectively.
 
The program collectively sends around 20-plus Bison athletes to make some noise in the Sunshine State.
 
LAST TIMEOUT
 
Bison Track & Field had an efficient weekend last week in Durham (April 11-12), competing in the Duke Invitational, hosted by the Blue Devils.
 
Several medals and top 10 finishes carry the momentum into the SEC challenge in Gainesville.
 
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
 
Following the second stint down south in Florida, the program will continue the outdoor season journey back up north at the prestigious Penn Relays, hosted by the Quakers (April 24-27).
